Ukraine : Domestic facilities of renewable energy generate almost 1,000 MW

The capacity of renewable energy facilities in Ukraine as of October 1, 2013 is 960.7 MW. Its annual growth rate reached 36%. Chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Mykola Pashkevych said this while presenting a draft National Action Plan on Renewable Energy until 2020.

"As of October 1, 2013 the installed capacity of renewable energy facilities was 960.7 MW. This year, 315 MW has been commissioned. This is 36% more than last year. Over the past 9 months, Ukraine has produced more than 1 billion kW/hours of electricity, which made it possible to replace the energy resources in the amount of 400,000 tonnes of fuel," Pashkevych said.

According to him, in 2020 the share of energy sources produced from renewable energy sources shall be not less than 11% of the total final consumption of energy resources. "It is possible to meet the goal. This is proved by the rate of development of this sector, there is a capacity and government support," he added.
